Just a brief update today ... but our newest book is thisclose to hitting print!
Jeannie Faulkner Barber's latest, Taste of Fire, is currently in final edits, and should be available within the next week or two for sale. We'll also be working toward electronic editions, too! Look for links to purchase soon on the DCP site, and at your favorite bookseller sites! A lot of folks may not realize it, but Texas, for some reason, is a hotbed of American otaku activity. Part of this probably owes a debt to Funimation, one of the country's biggest anime importers, being based in Flower Mound, a suburb of Dallas. As a result, one of the big events of the year is AnimeFest at the Sheraton Dallas, four days around Labor Day when cosplay, OVA's, and import toys and food rule the day.
So we're getting more aggressive with the DCP CosPlay Challenge, as announced a few weeks ago, and issuing a dare to all those out there planning to attend AnimeFest. We DARE you to cosplay as a Phantom Squadron character at AnimeFest! To make this worth your while, remember, here's the rules for the CosPlay Challenge: Create a Phantom Squadron-inspired costume, then model it and take a picture, and post it on the Internet. Send us here at DCP a link so we can find your picture. At the end of the year, we'll judge all the entrants, score them, and the winner will receive the entire Phantom Squadron series, signed and personalized, as well as their choice from the DCP Zazzle store. Certain things gave bonus points, such as having the picture appear at Fandom Base, or for convention pictures. There was a 10 point bonus for conventions, and a 15 point bonus for major conventions. We will be including AnimeFest in this category, so AnimeFest costumes will get the 15 point bonus. For your opportunity, check out the Phantom Squadron books, either in print or on several e-book platforms. Then make your costume, snap your pictures, and put 'em online. You have until the end of December ... so get crackin'! Our giveaway drawing on The Insurgent's Journal took place early this morning. Five lucky winners will be receiving personalized signed copies of the book in their mailboxes soon!
Congratulations to these five Goodreads members, the lucky winners of the drawing: Lyndsay Jandreau, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Annamarie Smith, Towyn, Wales, United Kingdom Michael Weil, Needham, Massachusetts Karen Anglin, Richmond, Kentucky Ken Brunelle, Lakeville, Massachusetts Enjoy the book, and be sure to send any questions you might have over to the Hidden-In-Plain-Sight Ranch! Here it is!
The next title coming from Desert Coyote Productions is Taste of Fire, the second novel by Jeannie Faulkner Barber. The story's just as awesome as this cover ... just check out this description! Incessantly teased by childhood peers over an uncharacteristic scar from a fiery car crash, spirited Terri Neal finds comfort in her father's explanation: "The flames licked your arm, but when it tasted you, it knew you were special, and the fire was afraid." Her father's shadowy death in a mysterious building fire prompts Terri to develop into a dedicated, top-notch firefighter. In a deadly house fire, she sees her father's image through the flickering inferno. He instructs the iron-willed young woman to seek out her biological parents. However, this task will be far from mundane as it propels Terri down a path of intrigue, romance, and peril. In the innocent shadows of daylight, a lethal stalker and kidnapper lurks. Death approaches ... and someone will soon succumb to the insatiable TASTE OF FIRE! Taste of Fire is coming near the end of March-beginning of April from DCP! Keep an eye out! Well, now you can, and you don't need to be creative!
Click on the brand to the left. It'll take you to the new Ask Blog for the Hidden-In-Plain-Sight Ranch, the place where Kitty and Cyrus Salem hide supernaturals fleeing from the New Empire in The Insurgent's Journal. We've worked out the bugs in the blog, so now it's ready for the viewing public. Go to the site, push the "Ask the HIPS Ranch anything" button, and send off your question. It'll be answered by one of four Ranch residents: Kitty Salem, Cyrus Salem, Michika Salem, or Alanna Sharpe. And yes, it can literally be about anything: check out the sample questions that have been posted thus far, which ask things ranging from the flavor of bison, to dating preferences, to the age-old debate over robots vs. dinosaurs. Also, keep a keen eye on the answers the Ranch residents give ... they contain hidden messages, which correspond to characters or incidents in The Insurgent's Journal and the other Phantom Squadron books. Get your questions in now, and be sure to check out The Insurgent's Journal currently in print, Kindle, and Nook formats! There's a few things coming down the pipeline from Desert Coyote Productions, in the wake of our appearance in Tucson. Check it out!
New Books: There's two new books coming down in the next couple of months. Look for Jeannie Faulkner Barber's second novel, Taste of Fire in late March or early April. Also, keep an eye out for Teresa Richenberger's Sold to the Highest Bidder, sometime this summer. New Promotions: We'll be cross-promoting books from friends of DCP, in addition to our own books. On top of that, as usual, we'll be running Goodreads giveaways on every new title that comes out. Speaking of which, the current giveaway for Don A. Martinez's newest novel, The Insurgent's Journal, has only seven days remaining for folks to enter to win one of five signed copies! And speaking of The Insurgent's Journal ... New Interactive Experience: We've started work on a Tumblr feed which will allow DCP's readers to interact with us. Not the authors, mind you ... the characters! Keep an eye on this space, and when we're ready, we'll roll out our official Phantom Squadron Tumblr Ask blog. Expect it to come from the future, and to relate to the picture at the top of this news posting .... Keep an eye out for all of this new goodness, coming soon from DCP! The Tucson Festival of Books is now in the books, and we had a great time! We had a good opportunity to connect with a new audience in Arizona, and judging by all the great comments we got on our books, we'll be soon seeing more readers coming over to DCP.

Come see us at booth #128, on the West Mall area between the U of A Student Union and Old Chemistry buildings. Our booth is a corner tent directly across the road from the Student Union, so you can't miss us. You'll have an opportunity to pick up copies of all of DCP's books, as well as meet DCP author Don A. Martinez (The Advance Guard, Dinetah Dragon, The Insurgent's Journal) as well as DCP cover designer (and U of A alumnus) Stacey Martinez, whose cover designs grace most of our books (An Unlikely Arrangement, Scent of Double Deception, Sin Secrets and Salvation, An Angel Box). We will also be doing some special events while we're there. We'll be taking pre-orders on the next DCP release, Jeannie Faulkner Barber's Taste of Fire. We'll be having a festival drawing for signed, personalized copies of DCP's books. Friends of the Festival, don't think we've forgotten about you: we have special deals for Friends of the Festival on all our books and our package deals! And as always at these events, we'd love for you to stop by and see us, even if it's just to chat. We love people. We don't bite. (Hard.) For more information on the Festival, including a map to show you the exact location we'll be, head over to www.tucsonfestivalofbooks.org. We'll see you in Arizona this weekend! A lot of activity is coming up on the horizon for DCP and our books!
First off, if you've noticed around the site, we've got two giveaways going right now! And one of them ends fairly soon, so if you want a chance to win you'd better get your entry in! Thus far, 668 Goodreads users have entered DCP's Angel Box giveaway for one of five signed copies of An Angel Box by Denny Youngblood. Hurry up and get your entry in on this one, because it closes for entries March 9th, and the winners will be drawn on the 10th! Also thus far, 242 Goodreads users have entered our other drawing, hoping to win one of five signed copies of The Insurgent's Journal by Don A. Martinez. You've got a little longer on this giveaway to enter, but not by much: your last day to enter is March 22nd, and on the 23rd we draw! As a reminder, ongoing here at DCP is the CosPlay Challenge. Dress up as a Phantom Squadron character, take a picture, and post it somewhere for your chance to win the complete Phantom Squadron series signed by the author and your choice of merchandise from the DCP Zazzle store. (See earlier blogs for contest details) This weekend (March 10th-11th), DCP will be in the sunny city of Tucson, Arizona for the Tucson Festival of Books on the University of Arizona campus. Author Don A. Martinez will be there for the entire weekend, signing and selling books and getting to know a little bit more about the readers. There will also be a giveaway drawing at the TFOB: seven winners chosen at random will receive a signed copy of a DCP title, also chosen at random! In addition, we will be taking pre-orders on DCP's eighth (!!!) offering, Jeannie Faulkner Barber's latest novel Taste of Fire. Pre-paid pre-orders will be shipped the day the book goes public, so come out to Tucson this weekend for your shot at reserving a great new read. Lots and lots of activity here.
